Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Editorial & Social Media Assistant to join our team at Joburg.co.za and pretoria.co.za. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Johannesburg and Pretoria's premier digital platforms dedicated to showcasing the best of these vibrant cities.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content & Editorial Support

  • Contribute to editorial brainstorming sessions for content development

  • Conduct research on local trends, events, and businesses

  • Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading content across platforms

  • Liaise with local businesses and organisations to gather information for collaborative content

Social Media Management

  • Execute daily community management across all social platforms

  • Monitor and respond to audience comments, messages, and mentions in a timely manner

  • Schedule and publish posts according to content calendar

  • Stay current on social media trends and platform updates

  • Identify opportunities to grow engagement and audience reach

Community Engagement

  • Represent joburg.co.za and pretoria.co.za at selected local events

  • Collect and incorporate user feedback to improve content and engagement

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 1-2 years of experience in social media, community management, PR, or digital marketing (internships acceptable)

Skills & Attributes

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail

  • Proficiency with major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok) and management tools

  • Basic photography and image editing skills

  • Familiarity with content management systems

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Passion for Johannesburg/Pretoria culture, events, and local businesses

  • Strong research capabilities

Technical Requirements

  • Reliable high-speed internet connection

  • Access to a computer/laptop

  • Smartphone with camera capabilities for content capture when attending events
